Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala

Chaudhary Omprakash Chautala was born on 1 January 1935 in Chautala village of Sirsa district in Haryana. Chautala served as the 7th Chief Minister of state of Haryana. His father Chaudhary Devi Lal played important role in the establishment Haryana from state of Punjab and later Devi Lal served as the Chief Minister of Haryana and Deputy Prime Minister of India as well.

Personal Life

Chaudhary Omprakash Chautala was born to Chaudhary Devi Lal and Smt. Haraki Devi of Chautala village in Sirsa district of Haryana. He came into politics as poll agent for his father’s election. He had keen interest in social work and politics and followed his father footsteps. Omprakash Chautala was married to Smt. Sneh Lata and have 5 children’s, two sons Ajay Singh Chautala and Abhay Singh Chautala and three daughters.

Political Career

• In 1970 , he was elected as member of Haryana State Legislative Assembly or Haryana Vidhansabha as candidate from Janta Dal.
• In 1987 , he was elected to the Upper House of Indian Parliament the Rajya Sabha and served until 1990.
• On 7 December 1989 , he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Haryana for the first time and served for 171 days till 22 May 1990.
• On 12 July 1990 he was again appointed as Chief Minister of Haryana for the second time with very short tenure of 5 Days till 17 July 1990.
• On 22 March 1991 he was again appointed as Chief Minister of Haryana for the third time again for short tenure of 14 days till 5 April 1991.
• In 1999 Vidhansabha or State Elections he again became Chief Minister of Haryana with full majority and served until 2005.
• In 2005 state election his party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) lost to Congress.
• In 2009 state election Chautala’s party won 31 seats , but Congress made it to the Vidhansabha as HJC party was dissolved in Congress.
• In 2013 , he was convicted for Infamous Recruitment Scam and sentenced for 10 years.
• In 2020 He completed his sentence , and was released early by rule and now he’s out in the state and strengthening his party.

Chaudhary Omprakash Chautala is amongst the most famous political figures of India. As the chief minister of Haryana he introduced many policies for making Haryana a fast developing state of India. He was great admirer of development of rural areas and farmers and always reflected in his policies and speeches whether in power or in opposition. He is known as most active political leader in state of Haryana.
